How digitization helps and advances your museum

26 March 2025, 14:00-17:30

On March 26, members of the Museum Platform ZH will have the opportunity to delve deeper into digitization and how it helps and advances your museum.

A wide range of possibilities brought by digitization will be presented. It’s not all doom and gloom, complicated systems, expensive licenses, or overdue data entry. Not at all! By looking ahead at what you can achieve in terms of digitization, there are significant benefits to be gained that you may not yet be aware of. And the benefits for your organization go far beyond just having a good collection registration system. We found the following speakers willing to share their enthusiasm about digitization with you.

Program:

2:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Welcome with coffee and tea

2:30 PM - 2:50 PM: Opening

The afternoon will be opened by Evelien Masselink and presentation of www.onsland.nl (opens in new tab) by Margaret Leidelmeijer, coordinator of the Knowledge Center and Exhibitions at the Indisch Herinneringscentrum.

2:50 PM - 3:25 PM: Dare to change, that makes you future-proof - by DEN Advisor Laura de Vos

Adapting to a changing and increasingly digital audience is digital transformation. But where do you start? A digital strategy is the foundation for digital transformation and preparing yourself for the audience of the future. How do you develop a digital strategy for your organization, and what tools are already available? DEN, the driving force behind digital transformation, supports you in this. In this session, DEN will guide you through the steps you can take to develop a digital strategy.

Laura is very clear: the audience of tomorrow thinks digitally. So, you’d better embrace digitization. It seems simple, but to benefit from digital strategies and create added value for your museum, you also need to think practically. She takes us through that thought process.

3:25 PM - 3:45 PM: Digitization and Support - by Cristiaan van Houwelingen, Collection staff member at the National Education Museum

When transitioning to a new collection registration system as a museum, what considerations do you make? What do you want to improve, and how? And who will do it? Who do you involve? Christian takes us through the steps the Education Museum took to choose a new system, ensuring that the volunteers feel involved.

3:45 PM - 4:30 PM: Findable online - by Shannon van Muijden, information specialist at the Rijksmuseum

Shannon guides us through the countless opportunities that open up when you have everything in order. A term list, good connections, clean files: it’s not an end in itself, but it brings the world inside if you want to be findable and connect objects. Shannon previously did this at the Zuiderzeemuseum and now at the Rijksmuseum.

4:40 PM: Closing with a drink

Questions and comments from the field are relevant for both large and small museums. Join the conversation! Moderator Evelien Masselink questions the speakers, but of course, there’s also room in the program for your questions.

Registration for this event is no longer possible.
