Arja van Veldhuizen

Specialist in cultural education and director of Stadsmuseum Woerden

Arja is a ‘museum animal’, but also at home in the broader heritage field. Her specialty is education and audience engagement in a broad sense. At the DEN Academy, she helps you enable people to discover culture and heritage.

Enabling people to discover culture and heritage and give it their own meaning: that is her driving force. Arja is a ‘museum animal’, but also at home in the broader heritage field. Her specialty is education and audience engagement in a broad sense.

Three days a week, Arja leads Stadsmuseum Woerden. Additionally, she works freelance as a specialist in cultural education. She has worked for LKCA (National Knowledge Institute for Cultural Education and Amateur Arts) and teaches the subject Heritage & Education as a guest lecturer at the Reinwardt Academy.

Previously, she worked for the Amsterdam Museum and the Tropenmuseum, CODA (Apeldoorn), and Landschap Erfgoed Utrecht. She is involved in the international museum association ICOM (International Council Of Museums), currently as a board member of ICOM Netherlands, and previously as a board member in CECA, the education committee. Since January 1, 2020, she has also been a member of the advisory committee for History and Literature of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
