On stage 2018: A European Celebration of the performing arts

2 januari 2018

"ETC launches a joint campaign in 2018 as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH). The campaign will celebrate the performing arts in Europe with a series of performances and side events in 2018. It highlights the dynamic and vivid role of performing arts in European cultural heritage which is, as the EU slogan of the year clearly states, “not only a legacy from the past, it is also a resource for our future.” (Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner)

ETC Member Theatres and opera houses all over Europe are invited to create or dedicate performances and related events (readings, introductions, panels, behind the scene tours, etc) on select dates throughout 2018 to celebrate live performing arts as important part of our intangible cultural heritage. These events will be scheduled and presented on the website The campaign is a one of a kind opportunity to present your work on a European level and bene t from the “waterfall” of the umbrella campaign of EYCH, that – starting from Brussels - will reach out to the countries, cities and remotest regions of Europe.

Cultural heritage surrounds us in the buildings of our cities, our landscapes and our archaeological sites. It is preserved not only in literature, art, and objects but also expressed in craft skills, stories, food and lms – and in live performing arts. In its diversity, cultural heritage brings people together. The digital world gives it an unprecedented access. The aim of the Year is to encourage more people to discover and explore Europe’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, and to reinforce a sense of belonging to a common European space. Our stories are an important part of our heritage – performed on stage across Europe!

Participation in On Stage 2018 is open to members of the ETC, Pearle* and Opera Europa. A joint communication campaign will allow a coherent and strong message to
be conveyed across Europe in connection with the new digital platform to discover live performing arts in Europe: (to be launched shortly)."
